Nokia releases free migration tool to help new Lumia owners migrate to their new phone

Nokia has released a new desktop tool “Welcome Home” to help new Lumia owners migrate to their new phone. The app allows iPhone, BlackBerry or Android users to easily move phone data (contacts, calendars, pictures, songs and videos) from their old phone to new Nokia Lumia WP.

“Welcome Home is a comprehensive one-time set-up tool, offering customers who are transitioning from a BlackBerry, iPhone or Android device, a fast and easy way to set-up a Nokia Lumia phone with their info and media. Welcome Home also leverages Quixey’s app search technology that sees the apps people already own and presents the app if it has a Windows Phone version. For the apps that don’t have an exact match, users are recommended similar apps for Windows Phone.”

To get started with the Welcome Home application, download the application and simply plug in your phone via USB to your computer.

Step 1: Let it scan your data

Step 2: See your results

Step 3: See your apps recommendations and install the apps using the QR code.  To do this on your Lumia, from the homescreen, hit the magnifying glass in the lower right of the screen and touch the icon that looks like an eyeball. The code will scan and you can touch the link to be taken to the apps’ page in Marketplace.

Step 4: enter in your Live account credentials and hit Next.

Step 5: The data extracted from your old phone will be copied to your computer.

Step 6: Finally, using Zune or Windows Phone Connector for Mac, move your data onto your new phone.

To bad there is not included support for Symbian and S40 devices. On would think that Nokia would want their current users to migrate to Windows Phone as well

    Still a great idea
